Local Business Spotlight: Mass Street Music

Mass Street Music has been a staple in the Lawrence community for over 35 years. Starting in 1983, the shop provides a variety of music gear for both starter musicians and seasoned pros.

The shop's "signature service" is the repair shop, says General Manager Mike Horan, with"3 full-time luthiers servicing most stringed instruments, from basic set-ups to full restorations" Every gear purchase at Mass Street Music includes a free setup, courtesy of the repair shop.

Over the years, the shop has adapted with the times, opening an online store in the 1990s, and growing their one-person team to a staff of 10 employees. Through the online shop, Mass Street Music has been able to increase their reach, both in the U.S.A, and internationally.

Lawrence's vibrant music and arts scene has supported the shop's longevity, in a time when brick and mortar music stores are becoming less common. "There's no way a town our size could support 5 (!) music stores without a thriving scene" says Horan, "And it's nice, too, since each store fills a slightly different niche, we somehow are able to meet most customers' needs in the area"
